Akdamar Church will be opened for a worship service for the first time since 1915 and thousands of Armenians are expected to arrive in Van for the occassion. For the event, Anatolian Adventures concept of HTC travel agency is welcoming demands for all travel and event related services.

Akdamar (Axtamar) Church is a ruined Armenian cathedral in city of Van (Wan) in Eastern Turkey. Situated on a small island in the beautiful mountain setting of Lake Van, the Akdamar church dates from the 10th century and is famed for the fascinating reliefs carved on the exterior.

The Church of the Holy Cross was once an important Armenian cathedral. The seat of the Armenian Orthodox patriarch, the cathedral was founded by King Gagik between 915 and 921 as part of a royal complex that included a palace, monastery, streets, gardens and terraced parks.

The church is all that remains today. Residents of city of Van will host Armenians arriving in the city for a worship service being performed at the Akdamar Church on Sept.19. 2010
