Thanksgiving Eve Party at Columbus 72 a Resounding Success

NEW YORK, NY – Armenian patrons in the New York metropolitan area brought out their dancing shoes at Manhattan hot spot COLUMBUS 72 for the Thanksgiving Eve party on Wednesday, November 21st.  Thanks to the efforts of the five organizing groups – the AGBU Young Professionals of Greater New York (AGBU YPGNY), Armenian Network-Greater New York region, New York Armenian Students’ Association (NY ASA) and Armenian Youth Federation-Youth Organization of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (AYF-YOARF) New York Hyortik and New Jersey Arsen Chapters – over 450 patrons moved and grooved all night long to an amazing array of Armenian and American dance music.  In summarizing the atmosphere and feel of the event, one partygoer said it best: “The Thanksgiving Eve dance was a great time! It was nice to have Armenians together in one place dancing and spending time together.”

The notable achievement of the five Armenian groups coming together in celebration demonstrates the commitment of each volunteer and guest to celebrate the community and perpetuate its culture.  In a gesture fitting for the season of giving, the organizers are expected to distribute a majority of the money raised to benefit four benevolent causes:  AGBU Senior Dining Centers (agbu.org/programs), Armenia Fund-Martakert Hospital Project in Karabagh (www.armeniafund.org), Armenia Tree Project (www.armeniatree.org) and ARS Javakhk Relief Program (www.arseastus.org).  The young professionals in attendance certainly enjoyed meeting and mingling with friends knowing that, at the same time, they were giving back to these worthy charities.

Given the enormous success of the event, the organizers remain motivated to continue the Thanksgiving Eve party in its current format on an annual basis.  So be sure to keep an eye out for the 2008 version of the event next November.
