Gold Medal Award

To further promote "educational pursuits by Armenians in America," as stated in the Constitution, the ASA instituted the Gold Medal Award in 1939. As many as five medals are awarded annually to active members of the ASA who have shown exceptional academic achievement while studying in colleges in the United States.

  • Vanessa Lucine Berberian of MA
1996 GOLD MEDAL AWARD RECIPIENTS at the 87th Annual ASA Convention in Weehawken, NJ
  • Hannes Sarkuni, 14, the youngest graduate in Rutgers University history, is among those students recognized by the ASA for high academic achievement. Sarkuni, who received his degree in Spring 1996 from Rutgers University, majored in mathematics and computer science, achieving the highest honors at age 12 and completed his studies in two years. Sarkunui is from Cranbury, NJ.
  • Stefan George Koenig of Providence, RI is currently attending Providence College and has been on the Dean's List at the College from 1993 to the present. Koenig, whose major is chemistry, has also received the prestigious Merck Chemistry Award for two consecutive years, as a freshman and sophomore. A member of the National Honor Society, Koenig is alo a member of the Rhode Island Honor Society and the American Chemical Society.
