Establishing a Scholarship

The first ASA Outright Scholarship Grant was presented in 1952 for the amount of $300 from the interest income of the ASA Permanent Fund. Scholarship amounts continue to expand because of additional funds made available in the Permanent Fund. Over $1,000,0000 in grants have been awarded to over 950 deserving Armenian students. In 2001 approximately $37,000 in outright grants were awarded.

We hope that people will continue to remember the ASA in their wills and bequeath funds to be used for scholarships. On several occasions, when there is a loss of a loved one, families have suggested donations be made to the ASA Scholarship Fund as a Memorial Gift in lieu of flowers.

There are three procedures generally adopted by most donors:

  1. A perpetual grant to be awarded annually by contributing a lump sum, of which the interest will accrue annually and be awarded each year to a recipient.
  2. A modification of the above, accomplished by contributing a smaller lump sum and offering the cash difference on an annual basis to provide a scholarship for a set amount.
  3. A lump sum donation to be awarded annually until the fund is exhausted or an annual contribution in the amount of the scholarship the donor is to provide.

Further information and details in establishing a scholarship are available by contacting any Board of Trustee member of the Armenian Students' Association or by writing to:
